about cat4

The CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test) is a standardised assessment used by many independent and international schools to evaluate a student’s underlying academic potential. Unlike traditional entrance exams, it does not assess learned knowledge, but instead measures reasoning ability across verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial areas. Used by schools in the UK and globally, CAT4 is often part of the admissions process or used as a benchmarking tool. We support families throughout this process, helping students become familiar with the format, develop effective techniques and perform confidently on the day.

Why pick us?

Why pick us?

CAT4 assesses a student’s ability to think and reason in different ways, rather than testing curriculum knowledge. The assessment is typically divided into four sections: verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and spatial reasoning. The test is timed and often unfamiliar in style, which can make it challenging without prior exposure. Schools use CAT4 results alongside other information, such as school reports and interviews, to build a broader picture of a student’s ability. We have extensive experience preparing students for CAT4, ensuring they understand the structure, question types and pace required to perform at their best.

Our process

Precision, planning, and proven results

We design bespoke tuition programmes following a confidential consultation, carefully matching each student with the right tutor and monitoring progress with discreet, ongoing oversight.

  1. Step 1

    Scoping Call or Meeting

To understand whether we are a suitable fit for your needs and to learn more about your family.

  2. Step 2

    Qualitative & Quantitative Assessments

Qualitative assessments with a tutor, followed by quantitative assessments to benchmark current and future attainment. Written reports are raw, unabridged and honest. We never sugarcoat current attainment and always manage expectations from the start.

  3. Step 3

    School Selection & Further Advisory

School selection is guided by Phases 1 and 2, and we strongly recommend attending an open day prior to confirming a list of schools.

  4. Step 4

Exam, Interview & Assessment Day Preparation

Comprehensive tuition, continual benchmarking and progress tracking with a strong focus on addressing areas of weakness.
