Introduction to 11 Plus Tuition

The 11 Plus is traditionally taken for entrance into leading independent girls’ schools, as a means of testing and benchmarking prospective students. The 11 Plus is now used for both girls and boys in Year 6 prior to entry into senior school at Year 7.

At Think Tutors we aim to support your family throughout this process by providing the very best 11 plus tutoring with experienced advice on the different schooling options available for your child based on both their interests and ability.

The key to success with the 11 Plus is to start preparation early, this gives your child the time to build the confidence in examination material and structure. We recommend starting up to 12 months prior to the exam to give your child ample time to prepare for the 11 Plus to the best of their ability.

Children are often taught the subject matter in school but schools often fall short of exposing children to the style of exam questions that they will face during the 11 Plus test. Our expert 11 Plus tutors help quickly build a rapport and identify any learning gaps your child may have. Concurrently, your child’s 11 Plus tutor will develop your child's confidence and familiarity with the 11 Plus exam by working through example questions and mock tests. By the time of the exam we want each child to be relaxed, confident and completely familiar with the exam so it just feels like another friendly tuition session.

What is the 11 Plus

The Independent Schools Examination Board (ISEB) Common Entrance at 11 Plus exam consists of three disciplines:

  • Maths: Test of child’s mental maths ability as well as maths concepts and solving problems in multiple steps.
  • Science: Testing scientific abilities across Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

The majority of independent schools which offer ISEB 11 Plus entry have examinations for girls in January and November for boys.

At Think Tutors, we provide your child with 11 Plus tutors who are experts in their fields with a passion for teaching and bringing the learning experience alive for your child.

The 11 Plus is likely to be one of the first times your child will experience a formal examination, this can be daunting so here at Think Tutors we support your child every step of the way to build their confidence in their ability to unlock their full potential.

Our 11 Plus tutors can operate both online and face-to-face to make the tutoring process as simple and convenient as possible for your child. We work around your child's timetabled school day and your family commitments.

We can work with your child over a long period of time, here at Think Tutors we recommend starting tuition a year prior to the 11 Plus, starting with one hour per week giving your child appropriate time to prepare for the exam. Shorter term tutoring is also available for a more intensive approach prior to the examination.
